Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,

soeben erreichte uns nachfolgendes Sun Security Advisory.

Solaris 8
Solaris 9
Solaris 10
OpenSolaris

SPARC Plattform
* GNOME 2.0 (fuer Solaris 8)
* Solaris 9
* Solaris 10
* OpenSolaris basierend auf den Builds snv_01 bis snv_121

x86 Plattform
* GNOME 2.0 (fuer Solaris 8)
* Solaris 9
* Solaris 10
* OpenSolaris basierend auf den Builds snv_01 bis snv_121

Vom Hersteller werden ueberarbeitete Pakete zur Verfuegung gestellt.

SA Document Body
Multiple Integer Overflow Vulnerabilities in the libtiff(3) Image Conversion To
ols tiff2rgba and rgb2ycbcr May Lead to Arbitrary Code Execution

1. Impact
Multiple integer overflow vulnerabilities in the libtiff(3) image
conversion tools tiff2rgba and rgb2ycbcr may allow a local or remote
unprivileged user to execute arbitrary code via a TIFF image with large
width and height values.
This issue is also described in the following document:
CVE-2009-2347 at
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-2347
2. Contributing Factors
This issue can occur in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
* GNOME 2.0 (for Solaris 8)
* Solaris 9
* Solaris 10
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_121

x86 Platform
* GNOME 2.0 (for Solaris 8)
* Solaris 9
* Solaris 10
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_01 through snv_121

Notes:
1. Solaris 8 entered EOSL Phase 2 on 1 April 2009. Entitlement to
patches developed on or after 1 April 2009 requires the purchase of the
Solaris 8 Vintage Patch Service. See Note in section 5 for more
details.
2. This issue only affect systems which have the libtiff(3) conversion
utilities tiff2rgba and rgb2ycbcr installed. These utilities are part
of the SUNWTiff package. To check whether the SUNWTiff package is
installed on Solaris 8, 9, and 10 the pkginfo(1) command can be used as
in the following example:
$ pkginfo -q SUNWTiff && echo “SUNWTiff is installed”

3. OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes above and
beyond the build from which it was derived. To determine the base build
of OpenSolaris, the following command can be used:
$ uname -v
snv_86

3. Symptoms
There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described
issue has been exploited to execute arbitrary code.
4. Workaround
To work around the described issue, do not load TIFF images from
untrusted sources.
5. Resolution
This issue is addressed in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_122 or later

x86 Platform
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_122 or later

A final resolution is pending completion for Solaris 8, 9, and 10.
Note: The READMEs of Solaris 8 patches developed on or after 1 April
2009 are available to all customers however Solaris 8 entered EOSL
Phase 2 on April 1, 2009 and thus entitlement for these patches,
including those that fix security vulnerabilities, requires the
purchase of the Solaris 8 Vintage Patch Service. More information about
the Solaris 8 Vintage Patch Service is available at:
http://www.sun.com/service/eosl/Solaris8.html
