Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,
soeben erreichte uns nachfolgendes Sun Security Advisory. Wir geben
diese Informationen unveraendert an Sie weiter.
CVE-2009-3553 – Schwachstelle in CUPS beim Verarbeiten von
Dateideskriptoren
CUPS verarbeitet Referenzen auf Dateideskriptoren nicht korrekt. Dies
fuehrt zur Referenzierung bereits freigegebener Zeiger und zum Absturz
des Drucksystems. Ein entfernter Angreifer kann diese Schwachstelle zu
einem Denial of Service Angriff ausnutzen.

A “use-after-free” Vulnerability in the OpenSolaris Common Unix
Printing System (CUPS) may Lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) Condition
__________________________________________________________________
Category : Security
Release Phase : Resolved
Bug Id : 6900557
Product : OpenSolaris
Date of Resolved Release : 07-Jan-2010
A “use-after-free” security vulnerability has been identified in the Common Uni
x Printing System (CUPS):
1. Impact
A “use-after-free” security vulnerability has been identified in the
Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) related to handling references in
its file descriptors-handling interface. This vulnerability may allow a
local or remote unprivileged user to crash cupsd(8) via a specially
crafted query to get the list of current print jobs for a specific
printer, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
This issue is also described in the following document:
CVE-2009-3553 at:
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-3553
2. Contributing Factors
This issue can occur in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_87 through snv_130
x86 Platform
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_87 through snv_130
Note 1: Solaris 8, 9 and 10 are not impacted by this issue.
Note 2: OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes
above and beyond the build from which it was derived. To determine the
base build of OpenSolaris, the following command can be used:
$ uname -v
snv_86
Note 3: This vulnerability only affects OpenSolaris systems which have
installed the CUPS package (SUNWcups). The SUNWcups package is not
installed by default. To determine if the SUNWcups package is
installed, the following command can be run:
$ pkg info SUNWcups
Note 4: This vulnerability only affects OpenSolaris systems which have
configured and enabled CUPS for printing. To determine if CUPS has
been enabled, the following command can be run:
$ svcs cups/in-lpd
STATE STIME FMRI
enabled 20:03:32 svc:/application/cups/in-lpd:default
3. Symptoms
If the described issue has been exploited to cause a Denial of Service
(DoS), cupsd(8) will crash, potentially leaving a core file depending
on the system configuration.
4. Workaround
There is no workaround for this issue. Please see the Resolution
section below.
5. Resolution
This issue is addressed in the following releases:
SPARC Platform
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_131 or later
x86 Platform
* OpenSolaris based upon builds snv_131 or later
